A ROMANTIC EDUCATION - STEVE/TONY AU [CHAPTER 14]

Chapter 14

“Everything’s fine, don’t worry”, Tony muttered, trying to sit more comfortably. I don’t watch much TV, I mostly spend my free time in my workshop, and I like making things”. Tony knew that they both realized how awkward this moment was. Steve looked down and leaned back in the chair,
“So why did you want to spend time with me after school..?”
Tony shook his shoulders. “I guess I wanted to find out more about you, and being able to talk freely”
“Why? You know all you need to know, Stark. Well I assumed you know all about me and my relationship” That last sentence was filled with sarcasm as he stretched a little to relax.
“I wouldn’t care any less for your so called ‘relationship’”, Tony replied. From what he got from Steve until now, it was easy to wind him up and so he continued in doing so.
“It’s a proper relationship, but you wouldn’t know what that’s like.”
“A proper relationship where you do nothing together but you’re free to kiss others. I think that is called an open relationship or something, not a relationship that could lead to marriage”
“We do a lot of things together; you just haven’t seen them because I don’t publicize anything. Why should I? And just for the record, you kissed me. I want you to get that straight in your head.”
“No, you’re not just blaming me”, Tony said crossing his arms. “Just admit it, you kissed me back Steve.”
“Trust me, if I kissed you back, you would know. It wouldn’t be like that.” He tried to defend himself, looking Tony straight in the eyes with a stern expression.
“You’ve got me curious now”, Tony said raising an eyebrow. “You were a bit clumsy with your kissing, but then I guess you don’t practise enough anyway”
“Tch, clumsy? Please. I practice with Peggy all the time; she doesn’t say that I’m clumsy.” He scoffed.
“Then again, she doesn’t have much experience herself”, Tony said sceptically. “I would say that you’re average, you don’t know much about holding someone in place either”
“Oh please, Stark, I could pin you anywhere I wanted. It’s easy, you just squirm too much.” A small smirk graced his face as he looked away momentarily.
“I don’t think I do, ask the girls I’ve been with, Rogers, they can vouch for me”, he said, starting to know how this could end.
“All the girls? You sound like such a slut, Stark. That’s freaking disgusting.”
“I don’t think that there’s anything wrong with having fun”
“It’s disgusting, all of the diseases and urh… bodily fluids, it’s nasty.” He shuddered as he spoke, trying not to imagine anything.
“Sex is not disgusting Rogers. Then again, how would you know, Mr.Purity Ring?” He laughed. “And I wouldn’t be stupid enough to do anything without protection”, Tony frowned.
“I’m proud to be pure, it’s something that I can be happy with and at least people won’t see me as a slut. Or think bad things of me, besides, even with protection you can still catch things.” The words of Peggy had become ingrained into his mind, this was the exact things she would say, and they had spent so long together that he now knew her speech off by heart, word by word.
“Really? I don’t think you even thought about purity when I had you against the lockers, not to mention that right now you sound so old fashioned, geez”, Tony said leaning back on the couch.
“It’s called being a gentleman, not being old fashioned. As for what happened in the locker room, it was all a big mistake, a big hazy, nasty mistake.”
“Yeah, so nasty, you made me look bad Rogers. Your clumsiness really put me off”, Tony sighed.
“I’m not clumsy; you just took me by surprise!” He shouted in defence.
“That’s the beauty of it. Or are you and Peggy so stuck into following a program or something?”
“We stick to a plan. She likes it like that. I like it like that.” He said stubbornly, folding his arms.
“Sticking to a plan is lame. You don’t know how beautiful is to be taken by surprise”, He insisted.
“Well now I know, and it wasn’t beautiful, it felt weird. And you’re a guy.” He added sternly.
“What’s wrong with that?” The millionaire gnarled.
“I’m straight. I like women. Deal with it.” He replied snappily.
“You kissed me for at least a minute.” Tony pouted slightly; he was starting to get annoyed at Steve.
“Whatever… it wasn’t a real kiss.” He said as he looked to the side, fighting with his own emotions and impulses to show Tony what a real kiss was.
“Go ahead, show me then” Tony would do anything to make the jock loose his cool.
“I’m not going to waste my time or effort.” He barked as his hand clenched into a fist.
“I would hardly call that wasted”, Tony said. He was fighting his urge to push Steve back on the couch, but again, he wanted him to do it, so he couldn’t come up with any excuses afterwards.
“Why do you want me to kiss you!?” He asked, trying to find every excuse to hold himself back, finding it increasingly difficult to do so.
“Why do you want to kiss me?” Tony asked back.
“You keep asking me to kiss you, dammit!” he bit his own lip, shifting to show how uncomfortable he was, Tony was really winding him up and filling his mind with these thoughts and impulses he’d never had before. His body was tensed up and uneasy.
“What’s wrong with that? I said that I like having fun, and I’m really curious to see if you’re indeed clumsy”, Tony said cheerfully. He noticed how tensed Steve was, and he couldn’t help but smile, proud of himself.
“I’m not clumsy, just take my word.” Steve said, letting out a sigh as he crossed his legs in agitation.
“I prefer not to”, he laughed and noticed Steve’s change of posture. “Someone else is getting excited now, doesn’t he? I wish that I could read your mind right now Rogers, I’m so curious”.
“What, so I can’t cross my legs now without being aroused? I’m not. You just piss me off okay? You’re so desperate for me to kiss you and I don’t like you like that…” His expression changed to a sad glance as he looked away from Tony. His mind telling him to show Tony but he just kept being reminded of his commitment to Peggy.
“OH? How do you like me then?” Tony said back, still waiting for a different reaction from Steve. He was doing everything to hold himself back, and he was managing it quite good.
“Not at all.” Steve said, once again displaying how stubborn he actually was when it came to matters of the heart.
“I see”, Tony replied. “Do you want me gone Rogers?” he suddenly snapped.
“You’re the one who wanted to come here, Stark” Steve snapped back, just as aggressively.
“Just answer to me”, Tony replied even angrier.
“You do what you want, so you god damn decide!”
“Why is it me that has to decide? I made what I want clear”, Tony said moving a bit away from Steve.
“No you didn’t; one second you’re all over me, the next you’re arguing with me, I really don’t get you, Stark!”
“I’m not arguing with you, you are arguing with me!”, Tony insisted, hoping that Steve would make a move soon.
“You’d better keep quiet, you’re just making my head hurt.” He said as he rubbed his thumb across his temple, pressing into it with his eyes shut.
“Fine”, Tony said crossing his arms. “I don’t like shouting anyway”.
Steve leaned back in the chair, shutting his eyes and sighing deeply, “You’re such a weird kid…”
“I could say the same back to you Rogers”, Tony muttered. Steve seemed tired with this, but he couldn’t give up. He came here to get his way.
“I’m not weird; I know what I am; a straight guy that loves his girlfriend.” He kept repeating it as though it was his mantra, trying to reassure himself.
“The fact that you always need to remind yourself about it tells me that you have doubts about it. Why were you so nice to me in the bus? And now you’re just yelling at me? In your house, while we are alone? You’re somewhat weird too, Rogers”, Tony insisted.
“I was fine until you brought up the whole kissing thing; I was nice because you looked upset okay?” He admitted, sighing again.
“Why does it make you feel so uncomfortable then? If that meant nothing to you, you would ignore it or even joke about it. But you’re not. You’re getting upset over it” Tony continued. “And I don’t regret doing it, just so you know.”
“Because… I just… I don’t know what to say Stark, okay?! I just… It’s… I don’t know.” He said, slumping down in the chair in defeat, he couldn’t argue anymore, he was just sick of all of these feelings and confusion within his mind.
Tony couldn’t help but smile a bit when Steve admitted his defeat. “I just had to make sure Steve. You don’t know what you want. I could easily take advantage of that but I won’t. It’s your choice”, he said, leaning back and looking at him.
