Tony was caught off guard by Steve’s reaction; he didn’t expect him to be so calm about it. “What now? Um…” he muttered, not quite sure what he was doing himself. “See, I knew you were all talk and no action.” He replied with a head-shake and calm smile as his body rested in the soft but broken couch. Tony knew what he wanted to do, but he wouldn’t dare to. He knew Steve would judge him and would add to his opinion of him being easy, so instead, he just pulled back again. “Just wanted to test something”, he mumbled to himself. Steve tilted his head and smiled at Tony, “Like what?” He asked with an inflection of intrigue. “None of your business Rogers”, the dark haired boy replied with a hiss. The jock sounded so different now, actually interested to see what Tony was up to. “Oh come on, it is my business if it means you’re forcing me down into my own couch.” He said, now with a content glint in his eyes. “You did the same to me quite a few times already today”, Tony frowned, looking back at him. The way they both switched moods all of the sudden was really strange but fascinating at the same time, “But you wanted this and… I’m just… experimenting. You should know about experiments Stark, you’re the tech geek after all.” “That is not exactly my field of expertise though”, Tony said back. “And there was nothing wrong with that… But you had all the fun today.” “I had all the fun?” He asked with an eyebrow raise, “What about you?” “I kind of did, but like I said, you’re still in amateur level”, Tony said with a smirk. “So you did have fun after all huh?” “I am certainly not an amateur, slut.” He responded, folding his arms, “It was okay I guess…” He ended up trailing off into a mumble, not wanting to give Tony the satisfaction that he so rightly deserved. Tony look at him coldly. “That that back. Now”, Tony said raising his voice. He was afraid that the captain would get that impression from what had just happened, but actually saying it kind of hurt him. He tried not show how he started to get upset and shifted in his seat. “So you can insult me and call me brain-dead or imply that I’m dumb because I like sports and I can’t do the same to you?” He still remembered that incident from when they had first met and it did really get to him, so much so, that he brought it up again. “Why don’t you just let go of that already? Calling me a slut is much worse than calling me stupid. At least I would know that the second part isn’t true and I wouldn’t get offended by it. I didn’t think being attracted to someone makes you a slut.” he said, regretting saying the last part. “Oh, so you’re attracted to me now?” He asked, he kept replying with questions because he didn’t have much to say, of course he wanted to defend himself and say what he was doing and saying was justified but he didn’t want to make it even worse. “You’re really stupid and slow for not being able to realize it sooner. And at least I have the guts to say it, you’re just hiding behind your girlfriend and calling your cheating on her ‘experimenting’”, Tony replied. Steve would find a way to excuse himself as usual, but the young millionaire wanted to make things clear. “Well if you’re going to be like that and do exactly what I thought you would do you’d better keep your hands off me then.” His tone turned bitter, he knew that he’d have trouble trusting Tony and the fact that he kept bringing up his girlfriend was starting to agitate him. “That’s fine by me, it’s not like I’m going to lose anything special anyway.” Tony replied coldly. He didn’t think that he would get so upset by this, and Steve seemed to be as upset as him, obviously for different reasons though. “Fine then, I’ll show you out.” Steve said, reaching for his hoodie and slipping it on again, this time putting his hood up so that it shadowed his eyes. “Yeah, thanks”, Tony said sarcastically, taking his sunglasses out of his pocket and putting them on, waiting for Steve to lead the way. He would call someone to pick him as he had no idea where he was at the moment and how to get home. Steve grabbed his gym back that he was planning to take to practice anyway, leading Tony out of the house, “I’ll take you to riverside court, you can get your limousine to pick you up there.” He continued, walking out of the dingy apartment. “I don’t go around in a limo”, Tony said sharply, following him. He wasn’t just upset; he was pissed off with Steve. Even though he was so attracted to him, he couldn’t spend a minute longer in his presence. “Really? Wow. Would’ve fooled me, I know you love to show off.” He said as he rolled his eyes, walking just ahead of Tony with his hands in his pockets and head lowered just so that his hood would shade his face and hide the anger and hurt he was feeling. Not to mention he didn’t exactly want to see how much he had upset Tony, though he could tell by his voice. “I just don’t bother showing off in front you, I already know I’m better”, Tony replied, pushing his glasses closer to his face. He was struggling to keep up with Steve who was walking really fast, not to mention having to carry his own, heavy bag. Steve huffed, “Right.” He replied, walking to the court that wasn’t that far away. The floor was graffiti covered and there were a couple of benches by the edge of it. “Just get your butler to come and get you.” He said, putting his bag down and unzipping it, pulling out a basketball. “What era do you in live Rogers? People don’t really have butlers these days”, he said, taking out his phone and sending a quick text. He then just looked back at Steve, watching him getting ready for his practice. “As if you do anything yourself, Stark.” He said, placing the ball down in front of him and doing some stretches, mainly upper body work to get his arms prepared. “Why do you even care? That’s how I live my life and it’s none of your business making fun of it.”, he replied, looking at him stretching, trying not to remember how Steve was on top of him earlier. “Just saying, that you can’t really lecture me on life when you’ve never really lived it. Being surrounded by help and parties, yeah, that’s not living. I earn what I get, unlike you.” He said, picking up the ball again and dribbling it. “Don’t talk if you don’t know Rogers”, Tony said with a calmer tone. “And I don’t need you to give me life lessons either; I enjoy my life just the way it is. And good for you, I hope you and your girlfriend are proud”. “Sure thing, go ahead and carry on your lonely life buddy. I mean, bed hopping must get awfully cold, better carry a night-suitcase wherever you go, it might help build up those scrawny arms of yours.” He said, jumping and shooting the ball into the hoop, watching as it arched before going in. “Lonely? At least I get to live life and not stick to a schedule for the rest of it like you do. Don’t get me started, just warning you. I work out myself, thank you very much; I don’t need your advice on anything. You on the other hand need me to pass your Science module, so you better start behaving better”, Tony said, scanning the street for a familiar car. He started getting back into his senses; Steve’s words were just passing him by. “As if, you know what Stark, I can study and achieve things; sure I need you for that one module but watch me blitz you in every other subject. Schedules keep things organized because unlike you, I don’t have an assistant doing everything for me. You need to fix up Stark and start doing things yourself. Oh… Unless you’re going to survive on your dads name and reputation for the rest of your life.” Tony’s eyes narrowed, though Steve couldn’t see that, his eyes being blocked by the glasses. “I intend to do great things in my life Rogers, and I’ll keep up my Father’s reputation, but I’ll make the whole world know me for something different.” He surprised even himself, talking so passionately about his future. “I don’t brag when I say that I’m a genius, and I will use that for my advantage. I have people that help me organize my life because it’s so damn busy, I’m not going to school and hang around playing with balls every day; I have important matters to attend.”, Tony said, not caring if Steve would get offended. “Go ahead then, attend to your important matters. What are you doing hanging around a ‘commoner’ like me” As he spoke he made air quotations, stretching off again. “I’m waiting, if I could go home myself trust me, I wouldn’t spend some extra time with you”, Tony replied coldly once again. “Aww, too bad, the limo is probably stuck in traffic.” He said, grabbing the ball and throwing it through the hoop again. “At least I get to see the bullying side of Steve Rogers”, Tony said sarcastically. Steve did nothing but insult him, and Tony wouldn’t hold back either. “Well get used to it because I hate millionaires, I hate spoiled brats and I hate putting on a facade, so I’m not going to stop any time soon, rich boy.” “You’re just a two-faced person, pretty much like every other person in the world. Afraid to show who you are and always hiding behind something. The feelings are mutual Rogers. I wouldn’t care less if you hate me; I know people love me anyway.” Tony said, pretty upset at that point. “Hah! Who loves you? I don’t even see your own father spending time with you.” He said, though after he said that his heart seemed to plummet. He knew what he had said was terrible and wrong on so many levels. Tony clenched his hands; Steve did mention a sensitive subject to him. “My father is busy making sure that our family name will never be forgotten and he cares about me. How could you see him in any possible way, I don’t think anyone’s parents would come to school with them”, he said coldly. He didn’t care if Steve didn’t mean what he said, it did hurt him. “No but they’d care about where they went after school, they’d call or ask where they are.” He stretched again, this time it was more out of frustration and anger; he had so much pent up energy that he was just waiting to use up but it was difficult to when Tony was there watching him. “What made you think that he didn’t? Besides I told Pepper, and he would inform him.” Tony replied, not too sure about whenever this was true or not. He just wanted to get away from Steve; he couldn’t remember feeling so uncomfortable before. “Okay Stark, whatever helps you sleep at night.” He replied as he shook his head. Tony didn’t reply, but he saw a familiar black car approaching, so he got his bag on his shoulders again and got closer to the pavement’s edge. Steve grabbed the ball in his hands, jumped gracefully and shot it toward the net before grabbing it again and dribbling it this time jumping higher and slamming it into the hoop as he jumped up, then letting go of the hoop and dropping back down to the ground. As the car stopped by him, Tony wondered if he should say goodbye to Steve, but he decided not to. He opened the door and got in his seat, taking his glasses off as he took one last peak on Steve ignoring him.
