Chapter 25
Steve walked into the study hall and sat down, it was as though he had a load off of his chest, he felt relieved and glad that he had spoken and kept his calm the entire way through, even though in reality he just wanted to grab Tony and well… hold him.
In the mean time, Tony walked around the corridors, he didn’t get to ask Pepper where exactly her class was so that he could find her later, but he suddenly noticed a red mane. “Pepper!” he shouted and ran towards her.Pepper turned around, holding books in her hands and raised an eyebrow. “Something wrong?” she asked while eyeing him.
“Can I talk to you for a minute? Or do you have a class next?” Tony asked eagerly.
“We have a class together now Tony”, she said patiently. The millionaire did lack a sense of interest for his own educational life, especially when it came to memorising his schedule without her assistance, “Come on.”
“Pepper, Steve and I talked calmly and we agreed not to argue”, Tony said without hesitating, glad he could share this with someone. “And it felt…nice. You know, being able to be friends with him. Guess what? He’s coming over this afternoon for our science project.”
“I really wonder what kind of project that really is especially since I’m aware that when girls came over, prior to this, you said that it was a ‘science project’ as well.” she said with a serious tone.
Tony couldn’t help but laugh in return. “Yeah, I wish. No, real work this time”, he said, secretly wishing for another type of ‘project’. He was sure that Steve wouldn’t want anything, at least not now.
They continued chatting until they walked into their class and sat down, exchanging small talks and looks from time to time.
Steve sat down in study hall, trying to do as much research on possible science projects as he could - the last thing he wanted was for Tony to actually think that he was stupid, so he was trying to figure out things that they could do that’d ensure that they both pass.
Whilst in class, Tony’s mind was still on Steve. He thought how nicely they interacted, and wished that last afternoon’s events didn’t end the way they did. There was so much potential, but Tony wouldn’t mess it up this time. He started thinking ways to impress the captain when he would come over, and smiled to himself, realising that this would not be hard.
The hour took a long time to pass, especially for Steve. He felt somewhat excited to be going over to the Stark mansion, truth be told, he did invite himself over but Tony was the one that said he had a lab in his house which would make the project far easier.
The bell finally rung and Tony along with Pepper packed their things away and headed toward the cafeteria. The corridors were quite full already, and Tony didn’t catch a glimpse of Steve while walking so he assumed that he might headed off somewhere else, and didn’t say anything until Pepper told him to sit down so she could get them lunch. Tony eyed the table where Steve sat usually but there was no sign of him there either yet. He took a sip from his cup that Pepper brought for him and started playing around with his food.
Steve walked into the cafeteria, getting his food and such, but along the way he ran into Loki who was stood in the queue just in front of him,
“Oh hey, how was P.E?” Steve asked
“It was… Enjoyable.” He said in return, “What happened to your hand?” He asked as he caught a glimpse of it as he held the tray,
“Oh… Just a little anger issue.”
“Anger is a bad thing to keep held in for so long.” Loki seemed unmoved; usually people would be sort of intimidated by the hand and the fact that it was damaged by ‘anger issues’.
“I let it out on the court, usually… Today was a bit much, but it’s nothing to worry about”.
Tony’s eyes narrowed when he saw Steve talking with Loki, but he told himself that he had nothing to worry about, especially after their talk today and knowing that he would have Steve over. He continued eating and drinking, looking uninterested.
As Steve led the way Loki was just about to walk to another table by himself but the blond looked back at him, “Why don’t you join us?” He suggested, Loki looked at him and smiled softly,
“Thank you, I would appreciate that.” He replied, following Steve to the table and sitting next to him, with Peggy at the other side.
“Hey, Pepper? He let him sit with him”, Tony said gritting his teeth. “He’s sitting next to him”, he said again, trying to comprehend the image he just saw.
“I noticed Tony.” Pepper replied without even bothering to look. “You still have the upper hand, don’t worry.”
Tony continued looking at them for a minute and then turned his back to him. Clearly Steve didn’t realise that he was there too, and he tried to think of good things that might happened when Steve came over to his turf.
