“So why are you here?” He asked again, this time with a more sullen tone of voice, feeling the warmth leave him as Tony pulled away.
“Because you seemed really messed up today, and needed to check up on you in case you do something stupid. People would question me again, I’d rather avoid that”, Tony murmured.
“I’ll tell them to back off and stop asking you then.” He said shortly, turning his head and looking back into the training site.
“Fine. Thanks”, Tony said sarcastically. “This is getting nowhere, I really wonder why I even bothered to come out here. You decline any help and stand there being so dramatic, grow up Rogers”, he snapped.
“I am not being dramatic, I’m being realistic god dammit Stark just shut your mouth and stop annoying me. You think you’re so tough with your attitude but the truth is, you’re nothing
without your father to depend on.”
“I learnt long ago not to depend on my father, Rogers. You don’t know anything, so you might as well shut your own mouth. I don’t think I annoyed you last night and suddenly you are pissed off at me when in reality you take your own problems out on me because
you’re so pathetic and can’t face them without mourning your ‘perfect’ life. And yes, I’m tougher than you”, Tony yelled back, now moving in front of Steve, blocking his view as much as he could. His blue eyes narrowed as he glared at Tony,
“You are in no way, shape or form tougher than me. Being emotionally stunted is nothing to be proud of. It’s in no means a strength. It’s your weakness. What exactly have you done that hasn’t been dependant on your father? Hm?”
“More than you; I study and work every damn day, trying to get achievements for my own self. Yes, I was lucky enough to have him my father, he can provide me with everything I want. I can’t spend time with him though. He raised me that way; being tough and not
letting any emotions take out the best of me. I do what I want without over-thinking. You’re just complaining about everything, how something that you don’t even admit can change your whole life, the life that you planned with someone you could easily cheat on”, Tony said, looking up at Steve with a cold expression. Steve stared down at him with a
glare that would usually scare others,
“You have no idea what you’re talking about. Big man in a fancy attire and posh clothes and a snarky attitude, take that away and what are you?”
“Um, let’s see. I’m a genius, I have money, anyone I want and apparently I’m quite a philanthropist according to the papers”, Tony said raising his eyebrow.
“You keep on hiding behind that barrier of yours, because it’s not going to last for long. Now get out of my face.” He said.
“It’s not going to last for long? I can assure you, Rogers, I will be even greater and famous in a few years, you’ll see that. And I’m going nowhere, I didn’t skip classes to have you playing the big guy”, he replied, crossing his arms.
“Why can’t you just leave me alone? Why are you stalking me?” He asked, running his hand through his hair and slicking it back, though strands still fell forward as they were heavy with
“What? You think too much of yourself, why would I even stalk you? That’s a really stupid things to say, did you run out of threats?”, Tony hissed, still not moving an inch away from him.
“Then why are you god damn here, Stark?!” He was getting impatient, everything he was saying either seemed to be going over Tony’s head or it was being ignored.
“I said I wanted to check up on you, is this not good enough for you? You’re not getting anything else out of me, Rogers”, he replied. He didn’t like the way Steve kept asking the same question, but he couldn’t blame him either.
“Why god dammit?!” He asked with a yell
“I fancy you, all right? I said that last night!”, Tony yelled back at him, kicking the fence behind him.
“Doesn’t seem like it, so acting like a snob entitles you to treat me weird and well… Make me make life decisions? Wait… You want me to break up with Peggy don’t you, it all makes
sense now…” He said, narrowing his eyes.
“Look, if you’re implying that I would want you to break up with Peggy so we can be together or some messed up stuff like that, then you’re wrong. I thought you heard the rumours about me, Rogers. Have you ever heard of Tony Stark having a girlfriend? No, you haven’t. Then why on earth would I even care if you’re in a relationship or not?”, he said.
Of course he was lying, but wouldn’t admit that to Steve either.
“So after we did all that stuff, why did you suddenly lecture me saying I have to tell her?”
“Because I…I just didn’t like the thought of it, okay? Yes, I may get a bit jealous, I don’t know! It’s a first time thing for me, I don’t even know what the heck is going on, I shouldn’t feel like this”, Tony replied, started pacing around in frustration. Steve felt as though he was being too harsh, and he was, it was a natural defense mechanism of his but he turned his head, trying not to think too much of it although it plagued him so. Tony had hugged him earlier and he had been so nasty to him in return,
“You’re jealous of her? Why would you be, you can have anyone Stark, why me?” He asked, lowering his tone, gradually becoming less hostile after the realisation of Tony Stark hugging him had hit him.
“You’re different. You’re actually someone that interests me, not just physically.. I mean you’re an interesting character, you kind of… what’s the word, fascinate me? Yeah. I can have anyone. I have everything and nothing, Rogers”, he replied with a calmer voice, rubbing his face.
“Are you crying, Stark?” He asked, looking at Tony, even as the rain ran down his face, he could see that the boy’s hair was standing on edge; he was cold, and who could blame him.
“Of course not, you’re the one that was sobbing from the very start. Yes, I saw you”, Tony quickly replied, looking away.
“It was just the rain, I wasn’t…” He said keeping his eyes on Tony.
“Yeah right, the rain and all, very convincing story there”, he mumbled all the while still avoiding his look. Steve shook his head and took off his jacket, throwing it at Tony,
“Keep yourself dry, you look like you’re going to turn into a block of ice.”
Tony grabbed the jacket and threw it back to Steve. “I’m not Peggy, Rogers”, he said, gritting his teeth. He was cold, he was soaking wet, but his pride wouldn’t allow him to accept Steve’s jacket like that.
