After training and another shower he headed out of the gym and sat down on a bench. Part of him wanted to go home, but it seemed as though his heart was yanking at his impulses again, it was as though he wanted to go to Tony’s place. He just needed an excuse and the science project would be perfect excuse. He made his way to Tony’s place, following the directions that he had observed on his last venture there.
After another long tinkering session in his workshop, Tony stood up and admired his handy-work. His AI prototype seemed to getting along nicely, and Tony patted it adoringly as he went upstairs, getting a shower and dressing up for the event. He put his trousers and shirt on, leaving the tie and jacket for later, as he carefully slicked back his hair and smiled at his reflection. He really loved dressing up and did enjoy the camera flashes. He cheerfully headed toward the living room again; tie in his hands, pleased that thoughts about Steve didn’t torment him meanwhile.
Steve walked up to the doorstep and raised his hand to knock on the door, what if
he’s busy..? Damn, I should’ve thought about that. He cursed himself, biting his lower lip as he shook his head, hand suspended in the air just inches from the mahogany door.
As Tony was walking past the door, something interesting caught his eye. There was someone standing there, as he could see from the outdoor camera. “Zoom in”, he commanded and the image enlarged. He could clearly see who was outside. Steve Rogers. Tony stood there in disbelief for a moment. Why would he even
come here in first place? He asked himself as he stood by the door, taking deep breaths as he opened it, trying to maintain his calm. “Oh look who decided to pass by. Are you lost, Rogers?”, he asked, tightening the tie in his hand and looking up at Steve, dressed up in
his practice gear.
“Guess I am… I just… Never mind, this was pointless…” He said, turning his back. He saw that Tony was dressed up and couldn’t help but eye him in that fleeting glimpse that he had caught of him.
“Seriously? You couldn’t come up with a better excuse?”, Tony said, still holding the door open, his heart racing.
“Well I came to talk or well, do work but you’ve clearly got other plans so I’ll be on my way”
“I don’t have any plans until quite later”, Tony replied calmly, rushing to reply hoping that Steve would stay.
“But you’re already dressed.” He said, trying to keep his answers short.
“Because I had a shower and decided to dress up? And that’s half dressed, not quite suited up yet”, he said, looking straight into Steve’s eyes, really wondering why he came over.
“I uh… Well I was going to work, well; give you what I’d done so you could read it over. I haven’t done much but yeah… Just check if it makes sense.”
“Yeah sure, can you come in or something, I’m not really keen on holding the door of the house wide open you know”, he said, sighing.
“Sure I guess…” He said with relief, he was glad that he had been invited, though he knew what he was talking about was a two second job, but he didn’t know exactly why, but he wanted to spend more time with the young Stark. He walked inside, as instructed and reached into his bag, getting a paper and holding it out to Tony.
Tony got the paper from Steve and sat down, his eyes quickly scanning his notes. He couldn’t concentrate, but he wanted to look as uninterested as possible to Steve. Yes, he was excited to see him here again, but Steve didn’t need to know that.
“Nice… Suit.” Steve said, trying to be nice as he folded his arms, watching Tony’s face and trying to analyse his facial expression.
“Oh, thanks, yes it is. We’re supposed to attend a charity event tonight in a hotel or something”, Tony muttered, his eyes fixed on the paper even though he finished reading it, as he felt Steve’s own eyes watching him.
