at first when they hugged I was so upset because Dean was so earnest and Cas didn’t respond at all.
now that I’ve seen the gifs I realize how much Cas was affected, it was just too subtle to catch the first time. and once again I am in awe of Misha’s acting.
the confusion on Cas’ face, followed by his eyes lowering. the way he stands so perfectly still as if he’s afraid to move, to give into this comfort when he knows he’ll have to push Dean away again. the way his hand clenches, is extended towards him as if he wants more than anything to reciprocate but has to physically hold himself back.
even more amazingly Dean isn’t even phased by Cas not hugging back, he understands him more than anybody. both of them have desperately missed each other and it couldn’t be more obvious.
